OpenAI pushes new models as Sora faces copyright backlash
OpenAI introduced new API models (including GPT-5 Pro and Sora 2 previews) while tightening Sora’s policies after criticism over copyrighted and harmful content.
At developer events this week, OpenAI highlighted a slate of API updates, including GPT-5 Pro, a refreshed small voice model, and a preview of the Sora 2 video API for developers. In parallel, the company moved from an opt-out to a permission-required policy for rightsholders after early Sora clips raised concerns—ranging from copyright to harmful deepfakes.
Why it matters: rapid capability releases are colliding with content safety and rights management. Enterprises get more power in the API, but governance questions around synthetic media persist.
